WHY PLEDGE?
As part of our ongoing campaign to reduce industry waste – in all its forms – we've introduced the Conscious Pledge to address our sector's contribution to the global problem of single-use plastic waste. Single-use plastic products are designed to be used once or for a short period before being thrown away or recycled. Many of us are contributing to the problem through the giving and receiving of gifts made from plastic.
So, let's make one simple change, today!
PLASTIC OVERSHOOT
Every year, there is a point when the amount of plastic waste surpasses the world's ability to manage it effectively. In 2025, it fell on Sept 5th
WASTE CRISIS
c.85% of single-use plastic packaging ends up in landfills or as unregulated waste (UNEP : 2023), and up to 199 million tonnes of plastic waste will be in our oceans in 2025
HEALTH IMPACT
Microplastics (less than 5mm) are now in the food chain and our bodies - some studies indicate that they increase the likelihood of serious health problems (World Economic Forum : 2025)
